Long-range DNA extraction
New DNA analysis technologies allow scientists to analyze genetic information over long fragments, separating genomic DNA from smaller fragments such as plasmids or mitochondrial DNA. This facilitates the discovery and detection of complex genetic events, such as structural variants (insertions, deletions, or chromosomal rearrangements). This method allows the migration of DNA on electrophoresis gel in 2 dimensions in order to separate the fragments according to their size initially, then to recover in large quantities these intact fragments (up to 2 Mb).
